To exploit your UAV at best, we offer to design a propeller customised to your needs. Our engineers work in close cooperation with your team from initial specifications to delivery according to the following process:

1- Specifications
You provide us with a specifications book describing expected performances and constraints applied to the propeller.

The minimum information requested is:
Maximum diameter
Rotation versus
Design point to optimize: Engine RPM and power, speed, altitude.
Schema of fixation on the engine shaft

Of course, in most cases, the specifications will include additional constraints such as the trust at takeoff, efficiency in cruise, propeller material, protections against erosion and abrasion, etc.

2- Propeller design

Propeller design is performed using software specifically developed by Hélices Halter to define the aerodynamics and structural characteristics.

Our propeller design software provides a good estimation of the expected performances in the early stage of the design. Thus we can explore scenario with different twist laws, chord laws, blade number or airfoils.

After several iterations, the design generally converges on an optimum solution. If the constraints do not allow finding a satisfactory solution, we can propose you some modifications of the initial specifications.

When design is completed, our software generates a 3D definition of the propeller in a format compatible with most CAD software used in the industry.

3- Protoype manufacturing

The 3D definition files are used to generate the CNC commands and manufacture the prototypes.

Composite wood propellers are manufactured on our CNC while metal and carbon propellers are produced by our partners who specialise in aircraft components as sub-contractors to companies such as Airbus.

4- Protoype testing

The prototypes are first tested on our static test bench to check whether thrust and absorbed power fit the specifications.

It is also possible to organize wind tunnel tests in one of our partner laboratory.

5- In-flight testing

The prototypes are sent to you for in-flight tests. We can adapt the propeller design according to the results of your tests.

Generally with less than 3 prototype iteration, we obtain a propeller perfectly fitting your needs.

6- Mass production start

Once the design is validated, we start the production of the series according the planning.

All the documentation and the files involved in the propeller design as well as in the manufacturing and test process are carefully stored.
